How disgusting is your keyboard ?

So my keyboard and mouse are running about 6 years old now. I'm not a slob by any means ( wife may say otherwise ). My mouse is losing its textured surface and my keyboard was getting .... character , yeah lets call it character, between the keys. So today, i took apart my mouse and cleaned it, added a dab of glue to the misfiring and abused primary fire mouse button to build it up and get the switch making proper contact and roughed up the surface with sand paper to get some texture back. I think that sanding was a mistake. Now my mouse feels ... bad. Oh well work as a couple of drawer fulls of mice i can leech. My keyboard on the other hand works fine and at a glance looks clean enough. But 6 years of dust, food, and general human shedding ... eeek Now mind you i have taken a can of air or compressed air to it in the past so it's not like some keyboards we have at work that we just throw out after we've had enough of them. I like my MS Internet Keyboard so though i'd see what i could do...

So whats the easiest way to clean that keyboard ?
The dishwasher of course !!!
Hell I even added the lunch dishes before I turned it on.


And how did it turn out ? Great !!! Just like it came from the factory. Of course I let the keyboard keys air dry 99.9% before putting it all back together. You can spot a drop of water there... and omg a piece of dust already....

Mine is not perfect, some dust, but not yet a full ecosystem. Then again this keyboard is less then a year old. Extra shiny Logitech G15. I did try to take a picture but the camera ran out of power.

No pictures, I can't seem to locate my camera atm. My keyboard has a fair amount of dust and tobacco crumbs between the keys, but it's not too bad I guess. I try not to eat around the computer so I don't have much in the way of food particles. Both my Dell keyboard, and my n52 gamepad have black keys, so it's easy to ignore any funk that's on them

Bunker is pretty clean of dust, I had to make it's own heating/cooling it was just to small to run from the house system and got either to hot or cold waiting on the house to get to a temp. Baseboard heat, and fan from the basement with a temp guage did the trick so far, that part of the basement is storage so not much foot traffic to kick up the dust.

hm, not too bad - some little spots of gunk here and there, not too much dust or fuzz. Since my rig is in my upstairs office, food doesn't generally come up here - the occasional glass of Scotch, but then spilling that would be sacrilege. My keyboard is 4 years old but still has a fair degree of spring to it, except for the up-arrow button, which I mash the hell outta in video games (moving forward). Mousy is fine - MX500. Old house, so things tend to be dusty.

I was going to clean up under my keyboard once. I went out and got a couple cans of air, and some alchahol swabs for the tough stuff. Then I lifted up the keyboard...



I figure I'd better leave well enough alone.

did that with my kids keyboard - and ended up pulling the whole thing completely apart to get the crap outta there. He he - had to go get another keyboard to remember where to put back all the little buttons

Did have a crisis at work - the PTA made us lunch, I bring back a big plate of food, and while I'm working at my pc, a deviled egg does a 1&1/2 off my hands landing upside down on the keyboard! Had to stop what I was doing and dismantle the keys to get the egg mixture out of there - can't have my keyboard smelling like egg farts everytime I start tapping away
