Eh, it's not a PC game, but anyone else here play Magic:the Gathering?

I've played mostly black since a shop owner I knew threw a starter deck of Alpha at me.

I just saw some of the previews for the new set coming out, and well,... this...

I couldn't be happier if you rolled me around in honey and threw me to the porn babes. Bawhaha

I've never played it, but I have heard it referred to as "Tragic: The Garnering" because it is apparently addictive.

Cardboard Crack. I've been playing on and off, mostly on, for like 15+ years now.

I've never heard of it, what's it about? Is it like a Dungeons and Dragons type game or something?

I sold a entire trashbag full of those cards for 30 bucks lol. I played in highschool for a while. Had tons of em. A binder full of goodies. I think the ice age or whatever series was the last to come out before I quit.

213 BTW: I noticed on your myspace page that you said you were into AD&D 2nd edition . . . why 2nd edition? I'm just curious. I have to admit that I have a definite preference for 1st edtion rules, but from what I've seen of ed. 3.5 it doesn't look too bad.

I do 2nd Edition cause thats where they really got into Darksun. I run games in that world to bring spoiled players back down to reality. Smilie I'm kind of a cruel DM, but everyone I've ever rana campaign for comes back for more, and they allsay I'm the best DM they've ever dealt with. I just try to keep the games realistic, dangerous, and rewarding enough thatthe risks are worth what I put my players through.

It's a cruel unforgiving environment, a mostly desert planet, and there are no gods. My first experiences there involved my Paladin coming from Ravenloft and learning the hard way to adjust t such a brutal world. within 2 days of him being on Athas (the Darksun world) he lost his paladinhood, and most of his armor. It was like 140 degrees in the shade, and he was stripping off his full plate mail armor, and down to a Elven chain Tunic and leather leggings with Chitin and Bone Leg Braces and 1 Bone Gauntlet, (that turned out to be cursed.) On his way toward one of the region's larger trading citieshe'd attracted alot of attention by leaving a trail of steel armor in the desert sands. He and his party kept getting jumped by bands of people for apparently no reason until we finally realized metal and steel on this world were EXTREMELY scarce, and sought after. Especially his +1 Flametongue Longsword. (not much of a blade by normal D+D standard, but on Athas, it might as well have been Thor's Hammer.

Try and read up on Darksun if any of ya get curious its a really interesting alternate reality for D+D. and if you're REALLY bored, I'll tell yaabout some of the characters I re-wrote from the Magic card game to fit into Darksun. Wink

I'm such an RPG nerd.

Ahh, okay. I vaguely recall Dark Sun, don't know much about it (well, I know something about it now that you've told me), but I've seen the books on the fantasy shelf at the bookstore Very Happy. The only reason I prefer 1st ed. above others is that they hadn't yet toned down on spells (eg, limiting fireball to (I think) something like 10d6 dmg, no matter the level of the caster) and other level-tied abilities -- which made lower level characters more powerful, but made high level characters less powerful. Also, I noticed in 2nd ed. they did away with a lot of of the demons, devils, deities, and so on (perhaps in response to parental criticism at the time) though I see that they have made a comeback in 3 & 3.5 (by "did away with" I mean that they removed references to them in the a lot of the 2nd ed. texts).
BTW: I played the original Ravenloft and if I recall correctly, it was no joke, so this must be a tough campaign setting.

The most difficult module adventure I ever undertook was The Throne of Bloodstone:

http://www.amazon.com/Throne-Bloodstone-Advanced-Dungeons-Dragons/dp/088038560X/sr=1-3/qid=1168571568/ref=sr_1_3/104-0970828-6730312?ie=UTF8&s=books

I recommend it, but it's for VERY HIGH level characters only. Expect to be level drained in this one and expect to face a lot of difficulties without recourse to the prime material plane for some time.
